And gave this message to his millions of fans that we don't have to run away from challenges, but face them bravely. So let's begin Inspiring story of Yuvraj Singh Cancer Journey.

Yuvraj has had a lot of interest in sports since childhood. From school time, he was always busy in sports and his entire focus was only on completing physical training so that he could stay fit. He did not like all the other subjects much, so his grades were also not good.

During school time, Yuvraj's friend Aanchal supported him a lot, and Aanchal often helped Yuvraj in his studies. Despite this, Yuvraj was always an average student in school life as his entire focus was on cricket.

His father Yograj Singh had enrolled Yuvraj in Yadavindra Public School because the Maharani Club was close to him in which big cricketers used to come to play. Once upon a time, Team India's strong batsman Navjot Singh Sidhu came to Maharani Club for his practice, then Yuvraj's father requested Sidhu to watch Yuvraj's batting. But Sidhu told Yuvraj's father that this boy was not made for cricket. Yuvraj was heartbroken, but his father did not give up his spirit and he was not one to give up, he had thought that he would get Yuvraj a place in the national team.

His father never lost his courage and always encouraged Yuvraj. In those days Yuvraj's father was very strict, and he always wanted that one day Yuvraj would become a successful player. For this, he also set a practice schedule for Yuvraj. One day, in the morning his father asked Yuvraj to practice, and it was very cold that day and Yuvraj was lying on his bed and he was pretending that he did not listen to his father. After a while his father went to Yuvraj's room and poured a bucket of cold water on Yuvraj's head. On that day Yuvraj was very angry with his father but in reality, his father had only one dream to see Yuvraj becoming a great cricketer.

Yuvraj's parents did not have a good relationship with each other, so Yuvraj thought that aside from all these things, he should focus his full attention on cricket and he also felt that cricket is the only thing that can give him freedom.

Yuvraj's father was very strict about cricket from the beginning and kept Yuvraj under very strict discipline till his teenage years. Once while playing a Ranji match, Yuvraj got out for just 39 runs, his father got very angry and he even said that didn't come home, otherwise I will kill you. That night Yuvraj had to sleep the whole night in the car parked outside the house.

Once Yuvraj had made a mistake in fielding due to back pain and when he reached his house in the evening, he saw that his father had broken the sound system of his car. At that time Yuvraj also had to face negative comments from his seniors. And when Yuvraj scored a century in Ranji Trophy and he told this to his father, his father said why didn't you score 200 runs?

Yuvraj was mentally very strong, so despite all this he did not lose his focus and kept trying. The result was that after this he went to play the Under-19 World Cup, scored 84 runs in his first match and also became the man of the match. He was adjudged the Player of the Tournament for this World Cup and thus my entry into the Indian national team.

The 2011 World Cup was no less than an adventure for Yuvraj. In 2010, he suffered a neck strain and because of this he was unable to turn his head. The team physio was called to fix his neck, but to no avail. But when Yuvraj went to the ground and took a couple of shots, suddenly he felt like the pain had disappeared and after that he started playing brilliantly and scored very well.

Yuvraj said that Sachin Tendulkar was a role model not only for me but for everyone and the whole team was inspired by him. It was my good fortune that we used to play together for Team India. Before playing the World Cup, Sachin told me that I should play tournaments for someone I respect or love.

Before playing the World Cup, Yuvraj had chosen two bats, in which he wrote World Cup 1 and World Cup 2. Yuvraj batting against South Africa with World Cup bat number 2. Yuvraj did not know that his mother had brought bat number 2 to Chandigarh. Seeking Baba's blessings, Yuvraj came to know when his mother reached Bangalore with the same bat before the match started. With the blessings of Baba ji and mother, it was such an effect that Yuvraj batted well. Yuvraj played the World Cup with this bat and scored 352 runs.

If we talk about his records in International matches then Yuvraj Singh Highest score in Test was 169, Yuvraj Singh Highest score in ODI was 150 and Yuvraj Singh highest score in T20 was 77 not out, other than that there is one more record, Yuvraj Singh fastest 50 which he scored in just 12 balls against England in 2007. For some cricket fans it may be not worth rememering but i must tell you, Yuvi was true fighter and fearless cricketer till the time he was on the ground.

From Cricket to Cancer

When Yuvraj started complaining of frequent coughing, he contacted his physiotherapist and acupuncture specialist Jatin Chaudhary. Jatin consulted Dr. Kohli and asked Yuvraj to do MRI and X-ray. When the report came, the doctor and Jatin were looking very upset. Then both asked Yuvraj to get a CT scan done as a white spot was visible in Yuvraj's report. When the CT scan report came, the doctor told Yuvraj that there is bad news, you have a tumor in your lung, Dr. Kohli also said that the tumor could be the beginning of cancer. Yuvraj also shared this news with his mother and all his close friends as soon as he got the news of being suffering from cancer. The doctor asked Yuvraj to be admitted to the hospital immediately. Because he used to vomit immediately after eating and drinking.

Playing for India was more important to me than health and for a few months I chose to ignore the drop in my blood pressure or stamina. - Yuvraj Singh

At the same time, Yuvraj was to shoot for the Puma brand, which also included three other players from the sporting world, including Jamaican sprinter Bolt, Spanish car racer Fernando Alonso and Argentine footballer Sergio Aguero. Hearing the news of Yuvraj's cancer, Puma asked Yuvraj to shoot later, but Yuvraj had to keep his promise so they decided to shoot it at the same time. Working with these world renowned athletes, Yuvraj felt as if he had forgotten for a while that he had lung cancer.

Yuvraj Singh Cancer Treatment

Yuvraj first met Dr Harper in London and then went to Indianapolis where he met Dr Einhorn, who was going to treat him. He was the same doctor who had previously treated Lance Armstrong. Lance is an American racing cyclist who was diagnosed with cancer. He is a well-known specialist, he told Yuvraj that he would undergo three chemotherapy sessions in two months and recover after that. As if cancer had never happened.

During Yuvraj's chemotherapy days, he was neither hungry nor could he sleep. During treatment, Yuvraj used to spend his time playing video games, surfing the net or writing a diary.

After a few days of chemotherapy, Yuvraj's hair started falling which Dr. had already told. That's why Yuvraj thought it would be better to shave his head.

Now everyone came to know about this disease of Yuvraj through the media. As soon as this news went viral, Yuvraj started getting calls from his fans and other celebrities. Then Yuvraj thought that why should I not tell everyone about my illness, he took a photo of himself and posted it on Twitter.

Dr. Einhorn checked Yuvraj's report and told him that his tumor was gone, only a few left over tissue was there.

On hearing this news, Yuvraj's happiness knew no bounds, and a new energy had come in him and he felt that now he can sing, laugh and do whatever he wants.

The first person to meet Yuvraj after his treatment was Sachin Tendulkar. He hugged Yuvraj tightly and encouraged him.

When Yuvraj was coming back to India, the crew present on the flight made a card to encourage him and wrote on it — Welcome Home Yuvi — Get Well Soon.

After chemotherapy, Yuvraj suffered short-term memory loss, which often occurs in cancer patients, due to which he had to face difficulties in recognizing people.

Once Yuvraj went to a mall, people there recognized him and everyone was coming to him and congratulating him. Yuvraj became very emotional with this reaction of the people. Yuvraj also went to Chandigarh to meet his Guru ji. In fact, wherever he went, everyone gave him a lot of love.

After coming back to India, Yuvraj noticed that he had gained a lot of weight. He thought it was time to start training and get back on the field.
But in those days the level of stamina in Yuvraj was low. The coaches of the team also helped Yuvraj a lot in getting back fit. He asked Yuvraj to forget that he had ever had cancer. He treated them like a professional player who hasn't worked out for 6 months.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India took great care of Yuvraj. They took full care of Yuvraj's privacy and also bore all the expenses.

During training, Yuvraj was afraid that his hair might get hurt, or he might get hurt. To overcome this, he first started playing with tennis ball and then cricket ball.

My 3-months practice and hard work paid off. Slowly my confidence level was increasing, due to which my batting was also improving.

One day when Yuvraj was on the roof of his house, he was surprised to see a peacock there. Many people think about peacocks differently, and some believe that having a peacock in the house is auspicious and some think just the opposite. But then his mother told Yuvraj that I have been selected for his World Cup T20.

The news of Yuvraj's selection in T20 had spread like wildfire. The comments that came from people were emotional. However, Yuvraj did not like it in the slightest that his selection was being seen as a favor on him.

His first match was in Visakhapatnam, where everyone who saw Yuvraj encouraged him. There were banners which read - Goodbye Cancer Welcome Sixer.

Everyone in the stadium stood up and applauded Yuvraj. However, that match was postponed due to rain. Yuvraj was very disappointed when his friends and family came to encourage him so that he could play well.

When the match started four days later, India won the toss and decided to field first, New Zealand had a very good score due to Brendon McCullum in the team. India lost the match by just one run but Yuvraj scored 32 runs in 24 balls and also bowled 2 overs. India registered a one-run win against Pakistan, but India was knocked out in this tournament. Yuvraj became the player of the match in this match.

After cancer, a lot had changed in Yuvraj's life. Earlier, Yuvraj's focus was only on the game and he never took his health seriously. Yuvraj thought that he would start a cancer charity and he started a foundation named YouWeCan.

Yuvraj Singh retirement date was 10th Jun 2019 and after retiring from cricket, Yuvraj is working full time for YouWeCan. Through this trust, Yuvraj is also serving people by raising awareness and funds about cancer.

Yuvraj says that I am thankful to my friends, family and cricket for all that I have achieved in life. If I fail again, I know I can stand up again and fight like a true fighter.
